Contact 13 helps man who breaks tooth at restaurant
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- What's your idea of a bad dining experience? Maybe it's bad food, poor service or dirty conditions. For one Las Vegas man, it was a surprise he found in his sandwich. And as Action News anchor Tricia Kean reports, when the restaurant wouldn't do something about it, he called Contact 13's Call for Action volunteers.
"I knew immediately something had happened," says John Eastwood.
It was back in October when John and his wife paid a visit to their favorite restaurant. John ordered a philly cheese steak. But he was shocked, when he bit down and found a piece of bone.
"I went crack, and it was an awful sound and split the side of the tooth right off," says John.
He says he spoke with a manager right away who apologized. John was asked to fill out this claim form, describing what happened.
"So there was no question they, as far as I was concerned, they were accepting the responsibility for it," says John.
He says he was told the restaurant's insurance company would be in touch. But in the meantime, he paid a visit to his dentist and got an estimate.
"It was going to need a whole crown. And that's $1,180," says John.
The estimate was sent to the insurance company. But after that, John says communication was difficult. November passed with no update. In December they sent him more forms to fill out. And in January, even more paperwork.
"I'm getting a little irritated, so at that point I hadn't heard anything," says John.
Tired of waiting to get his tooth fixed, John decided in February to contact our Call for Action volunteers. After months of no progress, he was surprised at just how quickly he saw results.
"I got a phone call from the insurance company and she was like my very best friend. And she said that she had talked to corporate and they had decided to go ahead and pay the claim," says John.
He eventually got this check in the mail for $1,180, and he couldn't be happier.
"I can't express my thanks enough... I'm very pleased," says John.
So here's the Contact 13 bottom line. If you have a dispute with a company, make sure to document everything. In the end, that's what helped John.
