Governor Gibbons is calling for millions of dollars in cutbacks from public schools.

But Action News has found one solution to the problem, and it gives teachers what they need without hanging to reach into their own pockets.

From digital cameras and computers to listening programs and reading materials.

Whatever teachers need to help students learn can be requested and funded online.

Teachers and students at Ullom Elementary School are raving about DonorsChoose.org.

Since September, 3rd grade teacher Veronica Durand has received more than $1,500 worth of educational items.

"It makes me feel good that there's someone else who cares what's happening in our schools and it makes it fun for kids to get new things and use them and benefit", Durand says.

After putting in a proposal for 48 headsets, worth about $400, in just five weeks Mrs. Sadie's class received what they wanted.

Students in the class are also learning how to use their newly donated digital cameras.

And Mrs. Sadie says she still cannot believe how easy it is and with no strings attached.

It is a win-win situation for everyone, including those donating their money.

Those who help run the non-profit Donors Choose website say it is about time teachers stopped using their own money for educational supplies.

Since its inception in 200, DonorsChoose.org has helped raise $18 million for schools.

In September it was opened to all states.

So far, Nevada schools have received more than $50,000 from donations.
