
It is called Morgellons, and is an unusual and scary syndrome that causes painful lesions with strange colored fibers that come out of the skin.
It is a medical mystery, and because the symptoms can sound a little crazy, it is often diagnosed as a psychological disorder.
No one knows its cause or even it if it is real.
But since 2002, more than 10,000 families, 80 in Nevada, have come forward describing the same surreal symptoms.
Nurse practitioner Ginger Savely is one of the few believers.
She has treated more than 100 people with Morgellons.
The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta is now investigating Morgellons after more than a year of pressure from patients and letters from at least 40 US Senators.
It is goal is to better understand the symptoms and their cause.
