Metro says a man was shot and killed after breaking into a home on the 4600 block of Crystal Peak, near Lamb and Las Vegas Blvd. It was the homeowner who reportedly opened fire.
The homeowner tells investigators he pulled the trigger out of self protection.
Metro is still looking into exactly how the confrontation went down.
Meantime, they questioned the homeowner. They're trying to figure if he may have known the alleged burglar.
"At this point, we haven't verified if they do or don't. That's something we're going to look at through the course of our investigation, said Metro Lt. Lew Roberts.
A friend of this homeowner tells Action News he doesn't think this break-in was completely random.
"He's just a businessman who deals guns and stays to himself and tries to keep things private. But I would imagine the burglar knew what was in the house or he wouldn't he in there. He knew that something valuable was in there," said the man, who didn't want to be identified.
Neighbors are shaken up that this happened nearby. At the same time, they hope this sets a startling example to anybody who may be thinking of breaking into their homes.
"Coming into your house, that means they're out to hurt you. I got three kids. I'd shoot too," said neighbor Anya Perez.
Metro has not yet released the identities of either men involved.
