President Obama is not making any friends here in Las Vegas.
His recent comments on the bailout and corporate responsibility took aim at our city.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is upset with the President's comments.
Harry Reid and Mayor Oscar Goodman are also upset.
They say that the President is smearing the reputation of Las Vegas in a way.
Over the last week, both Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs canceled corporate junkets scheduled to take place here in Las Vegas.
They were trying to get away from the perception that they are taking the money given to them in these bailout packages and using it to treat their CEO's to lavish vacations.
The comment President Obama made about the matter at a town hall meeting on Monday was:
"You are not going to be able to give out these big bonuses until you've paid taxpayers back, you can't get corporate jets, you can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers dime."
In response to that, Senator Reid released this statement:
"We regret that some firms receiving taxpayer support have used those resources in a way that has breached the public trust. This, however, does not change the fact that Las Vegas is and will remain the best choice for companies and organizations looking to gather their employees and members in one convenient, economical location for appropriate purposes."
Reid and the LVCVA maintain that Las Vegas has more meeting space and affordable hotel rooms than other cities.
They do not want the President saying anything that implies otherwise.
Mayor Oscar Goodman is also upset about the comment the President made.
He wrote a letter to President Obama. You can read that by clicking here.
