If you want to see a traffic jam besides the spaghetti bowl in Las Vegas, drive by any Clark County school around the start of first period.

The commute at one North Las Vegas High School is proving to be a rougher ride than usual.

Student Chelsea Gibbs sent Action News an email asking just when there will be some traffic relief  so we decided to investigate.

Between detours, cones and road closures some say one area in North Las Vegas.

"It's a pain, it's a really big pain," said Halle.

"Getting to the school is impossible," said student Chelsea Gibbs.

Chelsea is a senior at Legacy High, frustrated by the road construction around her school.

"They kind of close roads almost willy nilly like let's close this one now let's close this one," said Chelsea.

A massive flood prevention project is taking place smack in the middle of Legacy High students route to school.

"You have to leave a lot earlier and pray to god there isn't as much traffic as there was the day before," said Halli Cooke.

The project has blocked off access to Commerce Street at Centennial Parkway, the main road leading into the school.

That means there's only one Northbound Road in Goldfield and it's one way and leaving campus means zig zagging through detours or going a mile out of the way.

The city of North Las Vegas says because of weather delays the project is already behind by about two months and won't be done until September.

They say they're working to lessen traffic during peak school hours.

Students say they haven't seen any relief yet.

They say it's hard adjusting their schedules and they feel the effects in the classroom.

The Clark County School District says they've increased the number of buses that go to Legacy so fewer have to drive.

Chelsea, who rides with her parents, just wants a quicker ride to school.

"I understand that the city is growing and they need to do construction when they need to do construction but a little more warning or planning on the city's part would definitely help people who have to live around here," said Chelsea.

The City of North Las Vegas says there is some relief for Legacy High students as Commerce will be reopened in about a month so even though the project won't be done for nine months that will open up a main access road to campus.
