Las Vegas Home To Innovative Hydration Technology Called "Zoe"

Posted:

At a time when many companies across the nation are struggling and laying off workers, one local business is gaining global recognition for its innovative technology that is being used and tested around the world.

Noninvasive Medical Technologies, Inc. has developed a unique hydration monitoring device called Zoe.

Just a few years ago, the company moved to Las Vegas to take advantage of the city's great business climate.

And now, Zoe is changing and saving lives around the world.

The original Zoe monitor is a unique FDA approved device that can tell you if you are dehydrated or not in a matter of seconds, without drawing blood.

NMT, Inc. Chief Operating Officer, Ann McCaughn says, "We're very excited to be able to have the only fluid status hydration monitor in the world being made right here in this marvelous city."

The 29-member team at NMT, Inc. manufactures the devices here in Las Vegas.

With the help of Senator Harry Reid and the Surgeon General, the Zoe monitor is now even more portable.

Ann says, "The latest innovation is this wireless Zoe device, and you can wear it anywhere, and it hooks to the top and the bottom of your breast bone and gives you an instant readout on whether or not you're dehydrated."

Now, athletes, miners, and even our troops overseas are testing the new technology.

Just recently, 23-year-old Kristen Shumpert of Oakridge, Tennessee also started using Zoe.

That is because after having surgery to remove a brain tumor, she lost the ability to regulate thirst or to sense when she needs to use the restroom.

Kristen says, "Whenever I don't know how I feel, just having this makes you feel good inside.  Okay cause this is what it is, and I do feel this way so it kind of backs you up and makes you feel at ease."

Kristen also says the Zoe device has changed her life, and after meeting the people at Noninvasive Medical Technologies she plans to become a nurse to help others.

Soon, NASA will also be testing Zoe monitors in space to make sure astronauts stay hydrated.

The Zoe is currently available with a doctor's prescription.  It retails for around $600.00.
