With the state unemployment rate at 7.1% it is estimated that nearly 100,000 Nevadans are out of work.

That is why many are going to local career fairs in search of jobs.

The Orleans Hotel hosted a job fair Tuesday where more than 200 people were lined up before the doors even opened up.

Many are spinning the wheel of fortune, hoping to find stable employment during these tough economic times.

"It is horrible, I am retired and I have a 401k and that is where I am getting my paycheck and with the stock market going, down, down, down, I do not know what is going to happen," said Leonor Quintanilla.

The event was hosted by the Employment Guide and the AARP Foundation to help job seekers of all ages find work in more than 55 cities across the country

During this struggling economy, many employers are receiving hundreds if not thousands of applications for just a few positions, so the competition is pretty fierce.

"There are so many people looking, you can really cherry pick and find that right person," said Dana Keys from The Employment Guide.

Many are hoping face to face interaction will give them an edge over the competition.

"It is really important to interview and present yourself well, so if the opportunity does come your way, then hopefully good things will happen for you," said David Hamer, who is looking for a new career.

Still for those over 50, they are just hoping employers will not discriminate because of their age.

"I think it is harder for those of us who are elderly because there are so many young people out there too looking for work," explained Carolina Torres.

Job seekers say even if they do not get hired as a result of this far, they are cautiously optimistic that with events like these and they are bound to land something soon.
