Ed Halverson is facing several charges, including attempted murder, for allegedly beating his wife, Judge Elizabeth Halverson.
Metro Police were called to the Halverson home on Oxnard Circle near US 95 and Tropicana around 11:15pm Thursday night.
According to the Metro press release, when police arrived at the Halverson home, they found Elizabeth Halverson with severe injuries to her face, chest area, and upper arm area.
She stated to officers that her husband, Ed Halverson, had beat her up and had tried to kill her.
Officers determined that Edward Halverson used a frying pan and severely injured Elizabeth Halverson.
Ed Halverson was arrested and charged with battery with substantial bodily harm, battery with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder.
He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
Medics took Halverson to Sunrise Hospital.
On Tuesday a judge will decide on the bond for the attempted murder charge.
This is not Ed Halverson's first run in with the law.
He has a record that stretches back 20 years.
Edward Halverson closed his eyes to shut out the cameras during his arrest Thursday night.
He cannot shut out his criminal past.
When Ed Halverson married Elizabeth 10 years ago, he was already a convicted felon.
He is a three time felon, and has served jail time in Texas, Colorado and Nevada.
In Texas, he was convicted for possessing cocaine in 1992.
In Colorado, he was found guilty at trial of second degree felony burglary.
He was arrested 10 times for crimes including larceny, obstructing police, using fictitious license plates, and being a fugitive and ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Ed Halverson has had no domestic violence arrests before this incident with his wife.
The Halverson's were in trouble last summer with the District Attorney after their house was found to be a neighborhood hazard with an alleged infested pool and trashed yard.
In the course of Judge Elizabeth Halverson's disciplinary hearings, court records show she required her court clerk to swear in Ed to answer questions about matters related to duties she expected him to perform in the course of their marital relationship.
Courthouse staffers tell Action News that Judge Halverson had heated arguments with her husband over the phone including cursing and name calling.
Judge Elizabeth Halverson has been suspended from the bench since July of 2007.
Voters opted not to reelect her in the Primary.
Her term ends early next year, barring any disciplinary action by the Judicial Commission.
