Metro Police are trying to figure out who gave birth to a baby boy and left the baby inside a bathroom at the Excalibur Casino Sunday night.
Janitors found the baby boy dead around 9:40pm inside a casino level ladies room.
Action News reporter Ben Deci has the few details police know about the incident.
Police report the lifeless body of what appeared to be a recently born male infant which had been wrapped in a hotel gift bag and a pillow case was found Sunday.
"It is extremely sad and tragic to think that somebody could actually give birth to a child and turn around, wrap it up in a pillow case and just throw it away," said Scott Allison.
Scott Allison says fire departments in Southern Nevada have a policy aimed at preventing scenarios like that.
They will take an unwanted newborn with no questions asked.
"If they have just given birth or if it is a newborn they can come in to any fire station and literally hand that child over to us and totally walk away," said Scott.
So far, no one has used the program.
This is not the first time a strip hotel has seen a similar tragedy.
Two years ago MGM staff found a discarded infant girl in a dumpster.
The baby was born to a 16 - year- old visiting with her family.
Police were able to track her down within a week.
Now they are hoping they can find the mother of the child found dead Sunday just as quickly.
