Strip Begins To Settle After Monte Carlo Fire

Posted:

There was panic on the Las Vegas Strip as flames erupted from the roof of the Monte Carlo hotel and casino.

Hundreds of guests were evacuated, traffic was stopped and now a lot questions need to be answered.

The blaze started at the very top of the hotel and slowly crept in both directions of the facade.

It sent thick black smoke into the sky and burning chunks of debris to the street below.

Fire crews were able to get a handle on the fire, and fortunately there were no major injuries to report.

Clark County fire reports 13 minor injuries, all due to smoke inhalation.  The five guests and eight responders were transported to local hospitals.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Monte Carlo has been a landmark on the Strip for 12 years.

There are more than 3,000 rooms in the 32 story building.

Most of the 259 luxury suites are located on the top floors.

The building itself cost more than $344 million to construct, and employs about 3,000 people.
