Nellis AFB To Go Solar

Updated:

By 2008 Nellis Air Force Base could call itself the home of the nation's biggest solar power system.

On Thursday, Powerlight Corporation got the approval from the Public Utilities Commission to build Solar Star NAFB on 140 acres on the north side of the base.

The installation would supply 30% of the energy used at the military base and it will also provide backup power in case of a Nevada Power Company outage.
