Slow Down Or Else

Updated:

Statewide law enforcement agencies are coming together with one mission in mind.  Keep Nevada Safe!  Slow down or else.  That is the message to motorists.

Eighteen statewide law enforcement agencies, along with Safe Communities partnership, are kicking off a campaign aimed at targeting and catching speeders around the valley.

With 2006 being the worst year on record for traffic fatalities in Nevada, this campaign arrives not a moment too soon.

Speeding has steadily risen over the years as a major cause of fatal crashes.  Only impaired driving and not buckling up kills more people on Nevada roadways.

Speed is believed to be the direct cause of a fatal accident Sunday night at the intersection of Tropicana Near Durango.  A 1995 Honda veered off the road and rolled.

The driver was killed at the scene.

Expect to see a saturation of police patrols looking for speeding drivers throughout the month, along with new television commercials and bus shelter posters reminding drivers to slow down.

Organizers want to encourage drivers to pace themselves and realize that the Las Vegas community has a stake in reducing fatal accidents.

Keep it tuned to Channel 13 Action News for the latest on this campaign.
