Dr. Alfred SapseA Las Vegas doctor, who is in trouble with the FDA over his work with placenta stem cells, talked to Action News about the controversy. Dr. Alfred Sapse has been running a program for the last year.
Sapse has been offering placenta stem cell implants. He says 40 patients have already benefited from the program. Dr. Sapse says those patients were dying when they came to him.
The FDA has warned that the doctor failed to obtain, store, test and process the placentas. He has been forced to stop the program.
Dr. Sapse says he worked with a local hospital to get the placentas and a local surgeon to do the implant but he will not name names. The FDA is not commenting, as they say this action is only a warning.
The doctor says he will file all proper paperwork, but it could take several years before any stem cell treatment is legal in the US.
