The family of a 19-year-old killed in an apparent random robbery attempt is demanding answers and wants the killer to pay for what he did.
Dominique Evans was confronted outside of his home on Edenville Drive, near Desert Inn and Cimarron, early Sunday morning.
Police say the suspect demanded money then started to beat the young man before firing the deadly shot.
"His wallet was empty, empty, and they still took it," said Gary Evans, the victim's uncle.
Gary Evans is beside himself that his nephew died over an attempt to get at some cash.
He says Dominique graduated from Spring Valley High and had been taking classes at CSN. The 19-year-old had also been coaching basketball at Desert Breeze Park.
A the center of a growing memorial where the teen was attacked sits a basketball, symbolizing his passion for sports.
"He wanted to be a sports agent, had a great sense of humor and just enjoyed life," added Gary Evans. "If he was a gangbanger, I'd understand. That's what happens but he wasn't, and that's what make this alot more difficult."
The suspect in this case is still on the run.
He's only described as an African American male who had two accomplices with him at the time of the attempted robbery. They were in a black sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima.
Police believe that same suspect tried to rob somebody else, not too far away, just five minutes before attacking Dominique Evans.
After looking at Metro's Crimeview Web site, we learned that over the past two months, 8 assaults, 19 burglaries and 11 stolen vehicles have been reported within one mile of Desert Inn and Cimarron.
Neighbors who have lived in that area for a while, say it's obvious that things are going downhill.
"It's really ridiculous that somebody came in here overnight and took all of our sense of security. They just came through here and took it away from us," said neighbor Kate Milk.
