Police: drunk dad let 11-year-old drive, boy speaks out

Updated:

Las Vegas (KTNV) A father remains in the hot seat after he allegedly put his 11-year-old son in the driver's seat.

Metro says Eusebio Aguilar may have just been too drunk to drive this past Thursday night, when he was arrested near Boulder Highway and Twain.

His son tells a different story.

Jonathan Aguilar says it was "his choice" to get behind the wheel, and dad never made him do it.

The two were apparently on their way back home from a nearby Smith's grocery store.

The boy says he thought it was just a harmless driving lesson, and dad was in control of the vehicle at all times.

"He was telling me to like watch when I'm a grown up, to like, when I grow up so I know how to drive."

Police apparently didn't think this was harmless.

According to Metro, the car was stopped after making an abrupt turn into a dirt lot. An officer reportedly walked up to find dad in the passenger seat and his son in the driver's seat.

The 11-year-old was released into the care of his mother, while his father was put in the back of a squad car.

Jonathan Aguilar is still confused about why his dad was arrested.

"I just pretended I was driving," he said. "I was holding the steering wheel, and he just moved his hands and my hands."

Eusebio Aguilar is charged with child endangerment along with failure to show proof of insurance.

This son says his dad would never do anything to hurt him and never imagined he would end up in this much trouble.

"I want my dad to get out of jail," he said. "I would say I love you and I want you to come back."

While Eusebio Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of DUI, he hasn't been formally charged with driving under the influence.
